On The Island

on the island
i sleep in the trees
never touch the ground
i make fires
on the island
can’t you see the smoke
don’t you know love
when it calls your name?

the men on the ships
they shoot their pistols
they can’t bear the thought
of my eyes

at night i go down
to the ocean
my feet never
touch the ground
i drink from the sea
my belly hurts from it
but oh,
i drink from the sea

when the moon is not looking
i will set it on fire
can’t you see the smoke
don’t you know love
when it calls your name?
